Saskatoon Buyer Checklist
A practical reminder list for insurance, lawyers, utilities, moving, schools, and key-day planning before you take possession.
Timing
Where to start
Once conditions are removed, the possession details start moving quickly. Use this checklist as a guide and confirm timing with your lawyer, lender, insurer, and service providers.
Arrange home insurance before possession and send proof to your lawyer.
Choose a Saskatchewan lawyer and book your appointment early.
Contact your REALTOR® two days before possession to discuss key pickup.
Buyer reminders
Arrange insurance on your new home to be active about one day before possession. Your lawyer will need proof before title can be placed in your name.
Choose a lawyer and book your appointment about three weeks before possession when possible. If you are moving from another province, use a Saskatchewan lawyer for the purchase.
Book your mover well in advance, especially if possession is near the 15th or the end of the month.
Contact schools early to register children and confirm catchment or program details.
Schedule installation or transfer. Allow extra time for phone or internet setup, and activate monitored security if needed.
Set up utility accounts before possession. Ask the City of Saskatoon about TIPPS if you want monthly property tax instalments.
Confirm black, blue, and green bin service details for the property.
For a newly constructed home, check Canada Post community mailbox instructions and have proof of ownership ready if keys are required.
Notify Canada Post, SGI, insurance providers, credit cards, subscriptions, doctors, dentists, and rental companies for water heaters or softeners.
